Our dear friend Alice Pons recently traveled through Mexico and brought Babú along for the journey. From secret gardens to wild coastlines and timeless haciendas, she shares her unique perspective on the country’s beauty, architecture, and style in this blog post.
Parque Quetzalcóatl, where I wore the Babús, just outside Mexico City, is a surreal place designed by architect Javier Senosiain, who draws much inspiration from Gaudí’s work. It feels like a secret garden. It isn’t open to the public, but if you stay in one of the apartments at the “Nest of the Serpent”, you can visit. Alternatively, as we did, you can contact the park in advance to request a private tour. It’s a unique experience blending art, nature, and organic architecture.
Cuixmala, in Costa Careyes, is a lodge immersed in nature with vast beaches, free-roaming animals (zebras, wildebeests, and crocodiles), and breathtaking design. It’s a very exclusive place, perfect if you’re looking for silence, nature, and understated luxury. The property is part of a nature reserve and is entirely focused on sustainability.
Just three hours from there, Hacienda de San Antonio is a historic estate nestled among volcanoes and hills. The atmosphere is incredibly elegant, with rooms furnished with local artisan pieces and a cuisine made with ingredients grown directly on the property. The change of landscape compared to the coast makes it even more special.
